William Turnbull

Beyond Time
2010年6月9日–7月3日

William Turnbull, one of the most important living British artists, is exhibiting a selection of his work at Waddington Galleries in William Turnbull: Beyond Time. The exhibition will feature eight previously unseen paintings dating from 1957 to 1960, an important and influential period in Turnbull's work. A large selection of work dating from the late 1950s to the 1990s tracking Turnbull's development as a sculptor will also be on show.

Turnbull brought the avant-garde creative scenes of Paris and New York to the staid British art world. A close contemporary of Giacometti and Brancusi and later Rothko and Barnett Newman, Turnbull was a key member of the Independent Group besides Richard Hamilton and Eduardo Paolozzi, changing British artists' approach to their work.

Rebel, independent, multi-disciplinarian, collaborator and one of the art world's respected living artists Turnbull is the antithesis of the contemporary art world's focus on commercialism and trends. He is surprisingly unknown compared to the artists he worked alongside yet his contributions to Modernism, and later Minimalism, can not be under estimated.
