Robert Indiana in Venice

A collateral event of the 2024 Venice Biennale, Robert Indiana: The Sweet Mystery, organised by Yorkshire Sculpture Park, marks one of the most significant presentations in Italy to date of the work of celebrated artist Robert Indiana (1928-2018). The exhibition is presented by The Robert Indiana Legacy Initiative.

Embedded with personal memories and biographical detail, Indiana’s works in assemblage and hard-edge Pop point to universal questions about the human condition and faith in turbulent times, while also touching on issues of queer identity and the self. 

Through a focused selection spanning more than fifty years of artistic output, this exhibition, curated by Matthew Lyons (The Kitchen, NY), frames Indiana for new audiences to contemplate the metaphysical in the face of pressing concerns about life in the 21st century.
