Barry Flanagan exhibition featured on Artnet News

Barry Flanagan’s Playful Bronze Animals Frolic Through a New London Show

Artnet news feature Waddington Custot's exhibition, Barry Flanagan: Two by Two.

Describing Flanagan's work, artnet says: 'Despite magical allure of his sculptures, Flanagan’s work has often gone under recognized for its accessibility and fantastical quality, particularly at moments when abstraction both in painting and sculpture reigned.'

Senior Director Jacob Twyford is quoted, saying 'A leading light of the 1970s conceptual and experimental art movement, it seems to some incongruous that Flanagan should embrace this most traditional of materials and process, and to channel his ideas through the form of animals, anthropomorphic, dancing and leaping through space. But put these sculptures in the context of his earlier work and one immediately understands the continuity of thought and approach, the lightness of touch, the gentle playfulness, the invitation to engage and to enjoy. I would urge those critics still sipping their warm ale and yelling ‘Judas’ from the stalls to ditch the hairshirt and embrace what audiences and collectors around the world have discovered.'
